Christmas is described as the time for giving and is punctuated by gift-giving between family members, friends, and sometimes even strangers. Many in the church will cite the gifts brought by the wise men to Jesus as the precedent for this practice, but the wise men brought gifts to Jesus, not to each other. The greatest gift of Christmas is found in the Savior that God gave to mankind in the person of His Son, but there was a greater gift that preceded all others--the message of the Savior. Without the message being given, as it was to the shepherds, no one would know about the Savior. So we should make Christmas a time to share the glad tidings of great joy to all people--that unto all people God has given a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
