In vv. 15-17, we see that Christ is the Lord of Creation. He is first in rank and by Him all Creation is held together. All things were created through Him, and for Him. In v. 18, we see that Christ is the Lord of the New Creation. Paul highlights the headship of Christ in the church. He is the firstborn from the dead and the origin of the church. In application, we can't forget the deity of Christ! In seeing Him as the suffering Servant, don't forget that He is God. In vv. 19-20, we see that Christ is the Lord of Reconciliation. Paul is not teaching universalism, but that truly all accounts are settled, and all people will be brought into submission to God, either through redemption in Christ, or by facing eternal punishment. In application, we see the importance of seeking to bring reconciliation to those we care about. Let us submit to Christ in love and thankfulness and share with others who Christ truly is! |
