We return to our study of the Ten Commandments and begin our focus on the fifth commandment concerning developing a culture of honor (Ex. 20:12; Eph. 6:1-4). This is something that is quickly disappearing in the world around us.
As we come to this commandment, we enter into the second table of the Law. Our focus and duty changes from a vertical to a horizontal direction. This week we will focus on the place where honor starts - in the home. This commandment brings a duty to parents and not just children. We will spend the majority of our time in the first half of Ephesians 6:4 where we find the exhortation for fathers and mothers to not provoke their children to anger.
