As the Northern Kingdom, Israel, had been swept away by the Assyrians because of their sins, so Judah and Jerusalem would fall to the Babylonians because of their wickedness. At the risk of appearing to be unpatriotic in a time of war, Jeremiah spoke against the royal house of David and counseled the citizens of the Holy City to surrender to the approaching troops of Nebuchadnezzar and live. In the face of pending doom, death and destruction, Jeremiah introduces the hope of glory in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the promised Branch of David, fully God and fully man, Jehovah Tsidkenu (the Lord Our Righteousness) in the flesh....
