We began looking at this text together last Sunday morning. We saw that the Logos exists — a basic point, but an important one. We saw that He has always been present with His Father, and that He is also present to us. We saw that He is the Lord of time, yet consented to become subject to time as a man. I applied these truths about the Logos to our delusional relationship with money and things, especially the notion that money can give us being, that it can buy God's presence, and that it can grant us control over time. This morning we continue looking at John's glorious announcement of the pre-existent Logos. We will see today that He is the Creator of all that exists; that He has life in Himself; and that He is the light of the world. Again, these truths militate against our delusional relationship with money and the created order more broadly. When we learn what Jesus Christ is like, we also learn how we must be conformed to His image — and how He humbled Himself at Christmastime to become one of us. We are being conformed to the creativity, the life, and the light of the Word of the Father. That means we need to know what those are, and what lies that they call us to reject.
