Our last study in the gospel of John was about judging rightly as we learned from chapter 7, verses 19-24. Within those verses we read about the Jewish religious crowd, the Pharisees and Sadducees, attempted to disqualify the teachings of Jesus, not because Jesus erred, but because He did not have Rabbinical training.
He lacked the proper credentials expected of a Rabbi; that He did not sit under, and learn from a respected Rabbi. It's a bit ironic, is it not?
