Supernatural events, with no natural explanation were present in the ministry of The Lord Jesus Christ. Of these, many people took offence. There was no greater supernatural event than the Resurrection. Some mocked, there was hostility, it certainly provoked a reaction, and still does. However, is it so incredible that the God who made all things is able to suspend the laws of nature, and raise the dead, in this case His own Son? Let us be persuaded, and not be ashamed of these things.
The gift of God's grace does not lead to a decline in thinking. Indeed many reforms and gospel endeavours were the direct result of the Grace of God in the lives of Christians of former generations. Let us therefore in our day, also beneficiaries of grace, use our minds to similar effect, and with the knowledge God has granted to us, go out and 'do exploits'.
Sound thinking needs to be present in our theology. We are not to be inovators as far as doctrine is concerned, We are to take, believe, study and apply what God has revealed in the Bible. and not seek to add to it some new thing that is not there. How we apply the Bible's teaching to our own generation is important, but we have nothing to fear, God is with us.
Be a praying, thinking man or woman for the sake of the gospel. This is the Lord's truth - we are on safe ground. |
