It is evident from the way that Jesus words it here in these verses, that if you were going to be saved and given eternal life, that there were 3 things that He had to know and to do, in order that you would come to know Him personally, to know that He was your Good Shepherd. 1st of all – Christ had to be known by the Father and the Father had to be known by Him, so that He could die for you particularly. (verses 14 and 15) 2nd – Christ had to bring you, His sheep, most particularly into His fold by your hearing His voice (verse 16) 3rd – Christ willingly lay down His life of Himself, and took it up again for your sake at the command of the Father. (verses 17 and 18) Let's think together now about how much our salvation depends upon what Christ has done for us particularly.
