Who are your ancestors? The quest to find one's ancestral roots has taken on new life with the advent of the internet and DNA testing. Through websites such as Ancestry.com and others, we have the potential of accessing millions of documents and records to trace the migration of our ancestors from the motherland to the United States. But as important as it is to know our human ancestry, of more importance is to know our spiritual ancestry! Spiritually, who are we? The false teachers who had infiltrated the churches of Galatia were teaching that a Gentile had to first become Jew before they could be a Christian. For according to them, the Jews were the chosen race and God's favored people. They claimed to be the 'seed' of Abraham and thus the heirs of God's promises to him. But Paul sets the record straight. The spiritual blessing of Abraham do not come as a result of law keeping, but rather through faith. And as a result of faith in Christ, who are we? We are first and foremost, 'sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ.' We become children of God through the regeneration of the Spirit of God; we become adult sons of God through adoption. 'ALL' become sons of God-- believing Jews and believing Gentiles alike. we are not only sons of God through faith, but we are also united with and clothed with Christ. We are brought into a permanent union with Christ through Spirit baptism. We are also ALL one in Christ! Does not matter if you are Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female-- we all come to Christ the same way-- by faith and are thus on the same spiritual plane! And because we are in Christ, THE seed of Abraham, we too are Abraham's seed and heir.
