When will the Kingdom of God come? Even in the Lord Jesus own day many were asking that question. They were looking for an earthly, visible Messianic kingdom, for an earthly Messiah.
Today, people are still looking for visible things. They want to be impressed, to see the spectacular, to be able to say "look there", "look here". Whether it be so-called signs and wonders, political power and influence, church unity, or even to be part of an intellectual church, many are still eager for a visible manifestation of God's kingdom.
The Bible teaches that it is not like that. We learn that the Kingdom of God is within. It begins with the work of regeneration, so that Christ rules in our hearts, the Holy Spirit having quickened us. We then become new creatures in Christ Jesus, knowing His truth; power and love. Having been so changed, we are as a signpost, pointing others to Him.
All will become clear at Christ's Return, His Second Coming. There will then be no more looking at us, no more mere earthly expectations, but all will be looking at Him. A day of visibility indeed. |
