Wherever Jesus went, he attracted a great crowd who came for different reasons. But Jesus was not content with the crowd's casual relationship with him, but challenged them to become one of His disciples, a committed believer. But before one signs on the dotted line, He wants them to count the cost of being one of His followers. What is the cost? To be one of his disciples, we must love Christ supremely! He must be number one! We must be willing to obey Him, even if it means suffering. Plus we must be willing to give Jesus everything we possess. Jesus tells two stories to drive home our need to consider the cost in following Jesus. The parable of the builder who fails to complete his building project, and the parable of military planning. He wants us to consider the resources we have available to us in following him, plus the consequences of not finishing and following through. Jesus Christ desires for us to be fully devoted followers of His!
