The New Kind of Birth_08Pt1John 3:1-15Jesus meets with Nicodemus, and he tells him in order to be saved, all people must be born again. Jesus explains the plan of salvation to Nicodemus who visits Jesus by night. We begin to see the credentials of Nicodemus. Both a member of the Jewish Sanhedrin and pharisee family. Nicodemus acknowledges that Jesus is from God because of his miracles. And Jesus tells Nicodemus that he needs a new birth to get into the kingdom of God.Even though Nicodemus was the highest authority in all of the Israel. He still was looking at everything from a physical birth perspective instead of a spiritual birth. Nicodemus confuses spiritual birth with physical birth. Jesus Chastens. Nicodemus for not knowing these things, even though he's a respected Jewish teacher. Jesus employs 3 illustrations to explain the new birth to Nicodemus. A physical illustration. Born of water and the Spirit. A natural illustration. Where he uses the wind that's from somewhere and no one knows where it's going. That's most impossible to explain as trying to explain being born of the Spirit and a scriptural illustration that goes back to the Old Testament, where Moses lifted the snake in the wilderness on a pole. Showing that the Son of Man may be lifted up as well. In our first birth, we are born of the flesh and born of water, but in our second birth we are born from above again and born of the Spirit. Our first birth leads to death, but our second birth brings eternal life. Jesus is the Son of God Come down from heaven. He is the serpent Moses wrote about in Num. 21:4-9. He is the Father's love gift in Jn 3:16. All who looked to him by faith receive eternal life.
