Sometimes I need a day or two to stop and ask myself some pointed and tough questions like these:
"What's more important, Nick? Is it more important for you to be "right" or have the right kind of influence to make the right kind of investment in others?"
"Nick, is it more important for you to have the "last word" or make a lasting difference in those you've been given to lovingly influence and invest in?"
"Nick, do you HAVE to defend your pride and point of view, no matter what, or can you accept being wronged, misunderstood, unwanted and even taken advantage of at times?"
Just reflecting and sharing a little that goes on in my head and heart from time to time... especially when I'm pondering the sweet testimony and teachings of Jesus.
I suggest you ask yourself some of these or similar questions, from time to time... I imagine it will help you examine where you are.
In all of our relationships we are presented with choice after choice...and with each choice, we'll have to choose between honoring our pride and fighting for our preferences or defending God's promises. One or the other will take the lead and be a priority for us. And our pride needs no assistance or help, but to be committed to His promises we'll need His grace. It will also mean we'll need to be intentional with our faith and obedience before Him. Think about it? No one has ever accidentally trusted and obeyed the Lord. Why? Because the Lord Jesus NEVER does anything accidentally. And no one ever does ANYTHING for Him, WITHOUT being lead Him. And being led by never happens by accident.
