Unity and Diversity of the Old and New Covenants
In Matthew 5:17-19 Jesus pauses to make sure his hearers understand his words accurately. His life, work and words are all consistent with the Old Covenant while at the same time gloriously different. “He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” The sermon on the mount is not only the standard for God's people to strive for it is a wonderful picture of the righteousness Jesus Christ Himself has provided for His people in the Gospel. Here is the righteousness God will freely put to the account of all who will call upon His name! Enjoy.
