Although we love the law of God as believers, we recognize that in our flesh we do not possess the ability to keep it perfectly. In fact, there are times when we are inwardly compelled to do what we don't want to do or to desire the very things that we hate. This spiritual tension within us is a part of the true believer's struggle, which Paul continues to describe here in this sermon text. The answer to our struggles is not to base our acceptance with God on the degree to which we struggle, but on the knowledge that we belong to Jesus Christ who conquered sin for us. Ultimately, as God's people, our struggles against sin will be swallowed up by Christ's victory!
