Man Created Part 2
In how many “parts” is man constituted? I- The two main postures explained a) Trichotomy: Tri (3) + Tomos (cut)
* Man is constituted of three parts: body, soul and spirit. The body is the physical part; the two immaterial parts are the soul and the spirit. This posture is based on two key texts I Th 5:23 & He 4:12
b) Dichotomy: 2 + part
* This posture teaches than man is constituted by two parts: the body (material) and the immaterial, at times it is called soul and at times spirit that is, that the terms soul and spirit are synonymous
a. The "spirit" of man is for a relationship and fellowship with God who is a Spirit b. The "soul" is the "self“: the mind, will, and emotions d. The "conscience" (our belief / paradigm system) lies between the spirit and soul e. The "cognizance" (awareness, consciousness, and perception) lies between the soul and the body
II- The Biblical Teaching
a) The words spirit and soul are used interchangeably b) Inner grief is related both to the soul and to the spirit c) Salvation is associated both to the soul and to the spirit d) Death is described both as the departure of the soul and of the spirit e) Those who have died are called at times “souls” or “spirits”
