The Apostle Paul uncovers the Devil's ageless scheme to manipulate your emotions and to control your actions in order to accomplish his destructive purposes in your life. Responding to Dylan's comment Thanks, Dylan, for listening and for entering into the conversation. I think that you have missed Jesus' point. Jesus is establishing an over-arching truth of spiritual warfare that is so fundamental that even the Pharisees cannot argue against its powerful implications. There is no "sort of" in this statement. If Satan's servants are working against their master, his kingdom of darkness will not stand. Therefore, Jesus argues, He cannot be of Satan's kingdom as His enemies were asserting. A truth so fundamental applies to God Kingdom, as well. God would not sabotage the sanctifying work of grace of His Spirit in the lives of His redeemed ones by allowing us to have two fundamentally different natures with two diametrically opposed allegiances belonging to two conflicting kingdoms. To do otherwise would make no sense at all and would set the Child of God up for interminable frustration and failure! Life in this world is challenging enough having to live out our days in a fallen earth-suit as we await our deliverance through death (yes, a blessing in many ways) and the bodily resurrection. Jesus died that we might have life and have it more abundantly. God has set us up for victory, not defeat!

Great Sermon! To Mark:
That's a good point. I think "a house divided against itself cannot stand" was not a metaphor applicable to the relationship of the human body and the human mind. It was used to illustrate that one cannot "sort of" be on the side of God or Satan. God gives Christians a spiritual awareness when they are redeemed that allows their mind or house to base itself in Him. The spirit will always be at war with the body because of the innate fallen nature of our physical body no matter how pious and obedient we are. "Being divided" against oneself in this instance isn't referring to the war between body and spirit or body and mind but being spiritually on the side of God or the side of Satan. It helped illustrate the illogical accusations of the Pharisees and how if one is truly a servant of God, one cannot also be serving satan. The Pharisees accused Jesus of doing this, but the line "a divided house cannot stand against itself" was to illustrate how such accusations didn't hold their weight logically or spiritually. We will always be at war with our bodies until we no longer are stuck in them.

I'm Not Sure? Mark says: This sermon seems to be be based on a massive presumption. Dr
Stewart says that he is unaware of any way for tempting thoughts to get in the
head of a regenerated Christian other than Satan placing them there. I've never heard anything like this before, and the Bible doesn't explicitly teach this...In refutation of Dr Stewart Romans 7:22-25 says:
For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law
of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members."
Dr. Stewart responds: Thanks, Mark, for you excellent question. What the Bible tells us is that it is the law (or power)of indwelling sin in our flesh that is the source of sinful thoughts served up to our minds. "We have the mind of Christ" Paul asserts, and "a house divided against itself cannot stand," the Savior taught. If sinful thoughts come from my regenerated mind (innermost being), I am a divided house and will surely fail. John MacArthur states regarding Rom. 7:17-20, "His sin does not flow from out of his new redeemed innermost self ("I"), but from his unredeemed humanness, his flesh "in me" (Gal. 5:17)...The flesh serves as a base camp from which sin operates in the Christian's life"

Great Sermon! This preacher has done a wonderful job bringing this wonderful message to the church. If this message is digested and active in our lives, our minds will be fixed upon pure and good and holy things so that we might keep our minds and hearts fixed upon God and good things. In my opinion this is an excellent message that has come from the Lord God through the preacher who preached it so well. Bless you, Brother, for being obedient.

Great Sermon! A very pointed, practical and direct sermon. Here is the challenge, bring every thought captive and subject to Jesus Christ. Dr. Stewart does us all a very good service by asserting this can be done through the power of the Holy Spirit and our persistence in Him.
