Eliphaz, in keeping with the trend of self-promotion, in the name of counseling the friend; in chapter 4, he counselled Job based on his personal experience with supernatural claims. In chapter 5, argues using his personal observation of life. Eliphaz, convinced that Job was guilty of some secret sin and hence receiving the brunt of it's fury, he claimed accusatorily that: a) Eliphaz' testimony against Job was divinely endorsed (1-2); b) since Job is guilty, he needed to know and accept his fate/affliction (6-7); c) Because Job was guilty, Job needed to honor Eliphaz' authority and discernment (3 -5); d) Therefore, since Job claimed innocence, Job, you must know the extent of your guilt and sinfulness (4 – 7) and lastly; e) Job, you must know that, affliction comes because man is born to trouble (6–7).
