We have been working our way through Colossians chapter 1. Paul was writing a letter on behalf of Epaphras to help the church know the will of God. He didn't want them to fall into error. There were groups all around and inside the body that were advocating different beliefs. This is important for us as well. Not only does it explain what is wrong with these different views, like the idea that we must walk in the law and the idea that we should use modern wisdom, but it shows us the process of how we are to believe. We return to God's salvation and we look at what He did. From there it becomes clear that we can neither add anything to our salvation nor take anything away. God has to do it and it is wonderful and complete in Him. Our job as we saw in Col 1:23 is to stay in Him. We are to continue, to grow, to walk with Him. Our security, our fellowship, our strength, every part of the Christian life is found in Him. That was the purpose of verse 23, "If you continue in the faith." Real salvation is a life change, new leadership, new direction, and new goals. This is an allegiance that doesn't change but grows in strength as we follow Christ. Paul now moves on. He finished this verse with a thought on His ministry and will leave our Salvation for a moment and look at His ministry.
