God is pleased to draw attention to individuals in His Word. These accounts serve as examples, either for good or ill. Caleb is an example for good. He is no ordinary individual. He comes at 85 years old to claim his inheritance. Caleb is one who wholly followed the Lord (14: 8, 9, 14). He acted in faith. There is a contrast given to Caleb here in his faithless brethren who made the people fear (14:8). Caleb is a striking example of a faith with which God is pleased.
1.Faith is an encounter with God 1a. Caleb is convinced of the promise of God 14:6 - he highlights what God has said 14:10 - he is holding onto the promise of God made to him 45 years earlier 1b. Caleb is convinced of the power of God Num 14:9 - he knew the Lord would be with him when going into the land 14:12 - he reaffirms the same belief in God's presence and power
2. Faith experiences life by seeing him who is invisible true faith is not a momentary experience true faith continues on living not by sight Num 14:8 - Caleb doesn't deny the giants but he also doesn't deny what is unseen 14:10 - he understands God has given him life to do His will
3. Faith embraces challenges as opportunities to see God 14:12 - Give me the difficult that I might see the power of the divine See difficulties as opportunities to prove God's power is sufficient for you
4. Faith endures through the years Forty years in the wilderness. Then due to the unbelief of others, he has to wait 45 years. But he continues in faith
5. Faith engages the enemy 14:11 - he has strength for war
6. Faith encourages others 14:8 - unbelief is deadly
7. Faith entreats God for the promised inheritance 14:12

Blessed faith. Brother Stephen, this was one of the best sermons I heard from you, or, at least, so it was blessed to my heart. It touched my very much to see how Caleb kept God's promise in his heart all those 40 years in the desert. Oh, for a faith like his!
