Romans is all about righteousness and the rest of the letter can be seen as an exposition or explanation of what Paul says in this verse. He uses these terms more than 40 times in this book. "Righteousness" therefore is a word we need to know in order to proceed. As A.W. Pink wrote, "The foundation of all true knowledge of God must be a clear mental apprehension of His perfections as revealed in Holy Scripture. An unknown God can neither be trusted, served, nor worshipped."
