When Jehoram came to the throne the first problem that faced him was the rebeliing Moabites. Jehoram decided that he had to strike and strike hard and put down the Moabite rebellion as firmly as he could. He knew that he would be greatly helped in this if he could secure the help of the other nations round about who may have also been threatened. So he secured the help of the Kings of Judah and Edom to go and fight against Moab. You would have thought that such a mighty force would have had problem in overcoming the Moabites. The problem was that for all their strength and for all their unity they had a lack of one basic supply that would have caused their defeat. When they had made seven days journey they found that the water supplies were dry and they had nothing to give their army and their flocks to drink and that one simple thing looked like bringing defeat to this mighty army. Water in the Bible represents a number of things but one of the things it represents is the Holy Spirit of God. In many ways their circumstances give us a picture of professing Christendom in general today. There is often a great amount of organization and a great amount of manpower but there is the lack of the one thing that is needed and that is the water of the Spirit of God. But in this story we find how certain defeat can be turned into blessing when God sends the water into the Channels of blessing.
