Theme: Beware of false Christianity, for when you truly know Christ and the gospel flows through you, you will love God and others. In vv. 45-46a, Jesus warns the crowd to beware of those who are only concerned with outward appearances. In application, we need to focus on our hearts. He points out the danger of desiring honor and recognition in v.46b and teaches that we need to prefer others to ourselves. In v. 47a, He warns against taking advantage of those who are less fortunate. We should instead seek to help those who cannot repay us. In v. 47b, Jesus warns the people to beware of false motives in pious actions. We need to worship God from a heart of love. In the end of v. 47, Jesus warns them to beware of the greater judgment. We learn from this that all things will be brought to light. In conclusion, Jesus is warning about false teachers. We must be careful not to follow these teachers or allow them into our local assembly. We also need to be people who are humble, who love and serve God and others from the heart. Let us be like Christ!
