It was 1104 BC. God's people found themselves in rebellion against God such that the Lord, in love, deigned to discipline them. Well as part of His correction, God allowed the Philistines not only to conquer Israel, but also to capture the most important religious article in Judaism at that time — the Ark of the Covenant, the symbol of God’s love for His people.
Our text is the record of what happened to the Ark after it was taken by the Philistines.
