Deacons play a valuable ministerial role in the church, a role that should not be confused with the role of elder (i.e. it is not the deacon board's job to run the church) but also must not to downplayed or pigeonholed into all the "non-spiritual" tasks.
The deacons are to be men of Spirit-filled wisdom and good repute who serve as ministers of mercy in the church.
