It should be no surprise to us, having considered we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, in accordance with Scripture alone, that all the glory goes to God alone. This is the final subject in our series through the Five Solas of the Reformation - Sola Dei Gloria - To the Glory of God Alone. As Isaiah tells us, "I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other," (Isaiah 42:8). Everything the Lord does is to the praise of his glory, and for the sake of his holy name - even our salvation. We have been made, and redeemed, for his glory. In other words, whilst all the glory goes to God, as his children, we are glorified with him and we ourselves, in Christ, are to the praise of his glory.
We no longer need to fight God for his glory. And we had better stop fighting for it if that is what we are doing. It is all to God alone. Yet, in his love and grace, he has called us and justified us and glorified us, so that all who hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. For "from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen" (Romans 11:36). |
