When a soldier goes into battle it is very important that he have a helmet on. Every piece of armor is significant as we have seen, but certainly the helmet is one of the most important pieces. The helmets of Greek soldiers often had emblematic crests on them which represented their hope; that they would come safely through the battle and be brought safely home. The helmet of the Christian soldier has written on it – The Hope of Salvation. It is the hope of salvation which protects the Christian's head; his mind his thoughts, and his soul, from the fiery darts of the Devil. And more especially, the helmet protects the Christian from the heavy spiritual blows given to him by Satan. Hope is the longing desire and expectation of receiving what God has promised. Faith is believing what God has promised in His Word. Hope is desiring and expecting all the good things which God has promised that He will be, He will give, and He will do, for the one who is walking on the path of righteousness. So what we want to do this afternoon is to examine 3 ways in which this helmet protects the head of the Christian soldier.
