1. Man does have some power to bless us (4:9-15)

Paul desired to be blessed by certain possessions (4:13) - the cloak (protection from the elements) - the books - the parchments (the Word of God as found in the Septuagint)
1c. Paul desired to be blessed by Timothy's protection (4:14-15) - Paul's great desire was that Timothy would continue in the ministry and avoid the harm that evil men could do to him - this would bring great blessing to Paul
2. Believers are not always able to benefit us (4:16)
3. Paul found his confidence in the Lord (4:17-18) - Paul found confidence by focusing on 3a. the Lord's presence 3b. the Lord's power 3c. the Lord's purpose 3d. the Lord's preservation 3e. the Lord's praise
