When people visit a church they often are looking for certain things in the worship – the style of music (contemporary, traditional or blended), the preaching (expository, topical, gospel-centered, practical), the frequency of communion, etc. Many of us have biblical convictions about worship. All of us have preferences.
Have you ever asked yourself what kind of worship does God like?
We believe that the infallible and sufficient Bible tells us how we are to worship God (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
The New Testament reveals “elements” which should be included in our worship. We believe that it would be wrong to leave these out or to add to them.
There are also “circumstances” in worship – areas in which we have freedom (such as the time we meet, the length of the service, the number of songs, etc.).
In this sermon I explain how New Covenant worship differs from Old Covenant worship because of the work of Christ, and then show what the New Testament reveals about both the elements which should be included in our worship. We also think about how we should arrange the circumstances of worship so that our meetings will be orderly, intelligible and edifying.
May God help us to worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
