It ends with a jarring image of a deadly famine and people staggering, wandering, fainting and falling, never to rise again. Things are not always as they appear to be. This fruit is not ripe in the sense of being ready to eat. The fruit symbolizes Israel, ripe for judgment. Fruit to be thrown out, not to be enjoyed.
