In this passage the Apostle Paul sets out to instruct the church at Corinth on the consequences of divisions in the church. Our true growth as Christians is impeded if we wrongly admire and adulate ministers, and in so doing set them on a pedestal. We are to avoid envy and strife and divisions, such things only serve to mar the testimony of the church.
Paul's accurate apostolic diagnosis is helpful for us today, and if we are to grow as believers, and not continue being only spiritual infants, or babes in Christ, we would do well to note his own humility and heed his wise counsel. It is, after all, the Lord Himself, through the Holy Spirit who does the work in us, all our effectiveness comes from Him.
