Order in the Church! Sermon 41 in the 1 Corinthians Series
1 Corinthians 14:21-40
I. Another Use for Tongues – Judgment 14:21-25
A. The Sign of tongues
1. They were a sign that Messiah had come and that the NT age of fulfillment was now here.
2. They were used, at least in Corinth – in the same way prophesy was used – so since God was speaking to the congregation through tongues – it was vital these tongues be interpreted – otherwise -- no profit.
3. But now, Paul gives another use of tongues – and he goes back into the OT. Isaiah 28:9-18a
B. These three categories encompass the Biblical Use of Tongues.

What is meant by this prohibition?
What is the extent of this prohibition?
What is the reason for this prohibition? 1. An appeal to culture 2. An appeal to Scripture. 3. An appeal to church order

I've learned a lot from this teaching from 1 Corinthians.
