Theme: Full knowledge of Christ fully equips believers with full assurance and knowledge and strong firmness in their faith. In v. 1-2, Paul tells of how he struggles on behalf of the church because he wanted to encourage them and desired for them to be knit together in love. In application, we have to be intentional about practicing Biblical love. In vv. 2-3, we see Paul's desire for the Colossians to know Christ, and he encourages them that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Him. In application, we have to value the riches available in Christ. We need to meditate on this! In v. 4, the main purpose of the letter is given: Paul wants to protect the church from false teachers. In v. 5, Paul rejoices in the Colossians' firmness. In application, we need to cultivate our order and firmness in Christ. In this passage, we see the importance of pursuing knowledge and maturity in Christ, not for the puffing up of our minds, but for our firmness of faith and to abide in God's love. Let us put Christ as the center of our lives! |
