There are differences of opinion relating to the work that Christ did. In his death on the Cross, did He die and provide salvation for all men or did he provide salvation only for a select number known as the elect of God? I believe that the scripture teaches clearly that Christ died for all men. That all men might be saved even though because of our sinfulness only those who are the elect of God will respond to God's gracious invitation. That gets us into an area known as Calvinism. What I want to do is look at the major areas of Calvinism versus Arminianism in an overview. The distinction between the two is the difference between God being at the center and in control of all things and man being at the center and exercising a large amount of control in all things. We are going to focus on one area, that of soteriology. Meaning a study of the doctrines of salvation.
