Misfits
Nesting with Jesus (midweek study in 1 Samuel 22, at Briggs Chapel)
Textured beauty... have you seen a wall made of various boards with diverse sizes, textures and colors? What appears to be bunch of misfit pieces, uniquely placed together, to make something lovely to behold is a gift. I'm always blessed by someone with a particular vision, that can create something of intrigue and unique beauty out of misfit pieces. And I have found the more each piece is weathered and stripped of itself... the more rustic and appealing it becomes.
It reminds me of David and the misfits who joined him while on the run from King Saul. "And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men" (1 Samuel 22:2)
These "misfits" were the start of a mighty force and "beautiful wall" of defense for the future King of Israel. God is wise... and Sovereign! He can use whomever He wants, whatever He wants, whenever He wants, however He wants, wherever He wants. And one of the neatest things EVER... He wants to use a weathered "misfit" like me, with a textured "misfit" like you, to create a beautiful wall of layer graced. What an awesome thought to ponder. And I can't think of any one more suited, or any better place, for those distressed in life, those loaded with a debt of sin and those discontented with themselves than Jesus to run to. We have a refuge much better than David could provide.
Blessings friends, may each of you have a wonderful night, receiving and extending His grace. Glory!!! |
