If ever there was a person in Scripture that was vilified for all the wrong reasons it would be Jacob. Jacob was chosen by God to bring forth the Messiah over his brother, Esau. The Bible speaks more about Jacob than any other person in the Scripture. Half of the Book of Genesis is about Jacob and he is referred to by virtually every other writer in the Old Testament and on 25 different occasions in the New Testament. Moreover God says, Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated. Jacob was not perfect but he did not steal his blessing from his father. It is way more complex than that. In this discussion we only scratch the surface on this complicated family and how and why God loved Jacob. Simply put God knew who would and who would not carry out His wishes. Jacob would, and Esau would not.
