There are times when we feel that we do not deserve the suffering that has come upon us. We may even feel that God Himself has 'hung us out to dry'. What is going on when faithful believers appear to be abandoned by God? When the God we have known and faithfully trusted in suddenly disappears off the battlefield, leaving us to suffer the pain and shame of defeat, where do we go with our despair?
Psalm 44 teaches us to take our complaint to God – to pour out our anguish to the very One who we feel has left us defenceless before our foes. We are encouraged to boldly cry out to the only One who can save and redeem us. Jesus, our great high priest, perfectly understands our grief who "in the days of his flesh, … offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death…" With sorrow and tears we too must entrust ourselves to the One who judges justly and like Christ prove the faithfulness of His love!
