God's Word Read and Applied Scripture: Acts 15:1-21 Text Acts 15:13-21 Sermon: DO NEW BELIEVERS NEED TO BE CIRCUMCISED? PT. 3 Points: I. The Affirmation of James (vss. 13-14) II. The Fulfillment of the Old Testament (vss. 15-17) III. The Purpose of God (vs 18) IV. The Particular Instructions (vss. 19-21)
Acts 15 is perhaps one of the most important chapters in the Scripture. From the days of Abraham God had chosen Abraham's seed to be the seed of promise. From then until Acts 10, in order for a non jew to be saved, they needed to be circumcised and begin keeping the Law.
There were those who said that for Gentiles to be saved, they would need toi be circumcised and keep the Law. The passage brings into the sharp relief the requirements for salvation. Was faith enough or did their need to be more?
This will be the disputed issue in this chapter.
In this Third study, after the body apparently came to a concensus (after they became silent) we hear the Apostle James summarize the position of the Jerusalem Council. He then quotes from Amos 9:11-12, how God had from centuries before told how the Gospel would open the door of salvation and the Gentile Believers would come in.
