Faith comes by hearing and believing the Gospel. The faith that saves then changes a life as the understanding of the Gospel grows. Those who genuinely believe should be able to give an explanation of the Gospel. Paul's letter to the Romans give this explanation and it was this good news from God that consumed his life after God set him apart to proclaim it.
The Gospel is the fulfillment of God's promises so it is good news, but not new news. Paul, as did the prophets of the Old Testament, spoke with confidence in the Word of God being true and reliable. The clarity of the Gospel and how God's plan of salvation would be carried out wasn't revealed until the coming of Christ to earth. Details of how the Messiah would, and could, both rule and reign as well as suffer and die were not clear until after the fact.
The details we have been given not only explain God's plan to us, but also should deepen our appreciation for what it accomplished and the price Christ paid to redeem us. A growing understanding will have an ongoing impact on the life of the believer in all areas. The message is too powerful to not be transforming once it is truly believed.
