The central role of the Holy Spirit in each believer's life is being explained in this section of Paul's letter to the Romans. There are two aspects of this conformity. The future aspect is the transformation of the physical body to one like Christ's resurrected body. The Spirit also works to bring about conformity to the character of Jesus Christ. This transformation begins at the moment of regeneration by the Spirit and continues until final glorification. This process takes place as the Word of God is being learned, submitted to, and applied by the Holy Spirit to the heart and mind of the believer.
God's purposes for the believer started in eternity past and continue through glorification in eternity future because He is sovereign. This is the grounds for the believer's security in their salvation.
