2: The Toronto Blessing 20 Years On : Perspectives on the Church and Society
It is twenty years since many churches in the UK experienced a phenomenon that came to be known as 'The Toronto Blessing'. Thought by some people to be a work of the Holy Spirit, people experienced strange and bizaar manifestations such as shaking, uncontrollable laughter and being 'slain in the Spirit'. What was it? What differences did it make? What legacy has it left behind? These were some of the questions that were addressed at this Conference.
Mike Judge, former Head of Communiucations at The Christian Institute, and a trained Journalist, but now Pastor of Chorlton Evangelical Church, looks at the claims made by supporters of The Toronto Blessing, and assesses what impact, if any, the Toronto Blessing had in the British media, and the National conciousness here in the UK. |
