The involvement of demons in God's judgments on the earth and on the earth dwellers becomes direct as the fifth trumpet judgment is described. Demons that have been confined in the abyss are released by God who alone holds the key. They add to the intensity of torment coming on the earth inflicting pain and torment on unbelievers. They are allowed to cause hurt and harm to the extent, their targets, and for the duration God will allow. They will not be allowed to kill anyone while the infliction's they cause will make those afflicted long for death. This coordinated activity by the demons in attacking the unbeliever demonstrates the hateful evil regard Satan and his hosts have for humanity who, even as unbelievers, are created in the image of God for a relationship with God.
