INTRO: Over the years I have given a number of messages on pride. Pride is a universal problem. But how can we overcome pride? There are no easy answers. Throughout life we meet new circumstances and there are new problems with pride. We wish to be done with pride. We wish we did not have this issue. But if we had no potential for pride, we would be good for anything for the Lord, strange as that may seem. It is overcoming pride that our greatest value for God comes, and it is that which brings the greatest spiritual beauty for the Lord. For example, maybe some person is jealous of another because of something that this person has. That is where pride wants to raise its ugly head. But if everybody had that something that makes us jealous now, nobody would be jealous of having that something and nobody would be proud of having that something. Pride is competitive. Pride seeks the glorification of self. What does it take to bring us to where we can rejoice in someone else getting what we want? Humility. You see, if we did not want that something that another has, we could not be humble about it. How do you like to play a game with somebody who does not care if they win or lose and they just play and hope the end of the game comes soon? I had an uncle who got frustrated when he was losing, so he picked up the board game on one corner and dumped all the players, and he said, "Well, if that's the way you want to play, I'm done." True victory is not when it doesn't bother you if you win or lose, it is overcoming when you lose. I have my hands full with that. It is when the big "I", the "self" doesn't get what self wants that humility becomes possible. When we gain the victory
