This sermon is a clarification of the previous sermon in 1 John. I have had a change of heart. I said before that the nature of love was to go out to unworthy objects. I do not now believe that is correct. Why? Because love originates before the foundation of the world and existed first between worthy objects -- namely, the persons of the Trinity. God loved the Son and the Son loved the Father, and the Spirit was the very personification of that love. They were absolutely worthy of love. Therefore, when God loves us, He makes inherently unworthy sinners worthy of His love. He puts His image on us. Because it is His image, it is worthy of love. Yet, it is still true that as sinners, we are very unworthy.
