Often, church members can be likened to a football team, who after being trained by their coach, sit on the sidelines during the game screaming to the coach to win the game.
God has not only lavished gifts on the members of His church, but He has also given the church carefully placed individuals to help the members use their gifts. Actually, God has provided such individuals in five categories. God has granted the church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.
The person who says he doesn't need the church is a person who refuses to believe what God says about his need for the church. God has seen fit to provide gifted men to the church for that very reason; every church member needs them.
As in the parody of the football team, other church members see the pastor as the man who must do all of the evangelism in the church. They spend their time searching out perfect candidates for evangelism, and then they go and explain the dire need of that person to the pastor. You get him pastor!
Do not fail to think you don't have a ministry if you are not an official pastor. To encourage someone is a ministry in the church. You don't have to sit around waiting for someone to tell you to do something; minister to others. You are gifted to do it. Your pastor will be encouraged if you come to him and relate how you evangelised that person, rather than expecting him to do it.
