The Holy Spirit's ministry to the different groups was made evident by signs, miracles, and the ability to speak in different languages. The Spirit ministered through the apostles to the Samaritans, the Gentiles, the disciples of John the Baptist, as well as to the Jews. In Peter's first sermon, as he addressed a Jewish audience, told them that what they were seeing (visible flames of fire) and hearing (roaring wind and speaking in different languages) were signs prophesied by the prophet Joel. The passage in Joel, chapter two, that Peter referred to draws together details of the first and second coming of Jesus Christ. The events at Pentecost fulfilled those details that related to His first coming in verses seventeen, eighteen, and twenty-one of Acts chapter two, with verses nineteen and twenty referring to Christ's second coming. By this we realize that the ministry of the Holy Spirit will be ongoing and cover the entire time from the first coming through the second coming of Jesus Christ to the earth.
