There are only two views of the world: With God, without God. Without God, all world views become dualistic and irrational. Dualistic in the sense describe by Francis Schaeffer as upper story and lower story with the spiritual and faith in the upper story and with science and sense experience in the lower story. Secular world views to look only to the lower story without God must devolve into irrational skepticism. religious world views that look only to the upper story devolve into irrational mysticism. Soren Kierkegaard wrote "Fear and Trembling" about this passage with a dualist worldview. He ended up with Abraham taking an irrational leap of faith - with fear and trembling.
However, the Cristian worldview knows God created man whole, body and soul, that man fell whole, body and soul, and that men are redeemed whole, body and soul. In this world view, Abraham was operating on the proven faithfulness of God. There was no irrational leap. Abraham know of a certainty that he and Isaac would return home together because of God's promises.
Why did God ask Abraham to travel three days to Mount Moriah? Because on this mountain, the temple would be built and Jesus offered as an atoning sacrifice.
This fact resolves any moral dilemma and brings into focus verse 2: Take your son, your only son, your son whom you love, Jesus and offer him on mount Moriah an atonement for sin that God's people might know forgiveness. In this way, God became both Just (righteous) and the justifier of fallen sinful men. This is the heart of the matter
