A husband's and wife's covenant needs, are created by God, they are lasting and legitimate needs, for which they have no morale outlet outside of marriage. The covenant of marriage, as both conceived and defined by God, is made with God on the basis of legitimate needs of both the husband and wife to which both the husband and wife are held equally accountable. This second lecture addresses the misconception held by so many in the evangelical community that the marriage covenant is made between the bride, the groom and the church – a three way covenant which can be broken by failure on any one part of the triad. Rather the covenant is individually made between the wife and God and the husband and God. Irrespective of the behavior of you spouse God holds you accountable to your covenant which you made with Him. God holds you to His covenant, not one of your creation but rather His covenant, His standards based on His Word. Searching out the Scriptures to determine not only the standard to which you are held by this covenant but also the duties entailed is time well spent.
