Jesus never pulled any punches when it came to a relationship with God, especially with people like rabbis and legalists who should know the truth. Jesus never feared confronting the Jewish teachers and leadership of His day. In fact, He went out of His way to let them about their "putting on of a mask"--which is the meaning of hypocrisy. Jesus does not like hypocrisy. He wants what you are on the inside to show on the outside. Thus the parable of the lamp was spoken of in this context. When He rebuked the rabbis and lawyers about how they taught one thing in public but lived entirely different lives in private, He was exposing their hypocrisy.
