We are saved not merely that we might receive heaven in the future, but that we might glorify God with a redeemed life today. Jesus makes this abundantly clear in the parable of the soils. The gospel seed, planted in the good soil of a repentant heart, always leads to a spiritually productive life. “ He who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces… ” (Matthew 13:23, NKJV). This parable helps us understand what keeps some people outside the kingdom of heaven. It also causes us to examine our own hearts and ask the Lord to make us receptive to His truth so that we’re actually productive for His kingdom.
